Examples#

Here is a step-by-step example of using Clear Area to filter data.

  1. Prepare an Excel sheet with data to sort (B2:C7 in this case).

  2. Open Finplicity, and then click Data Basics > Clear Area. The form of Clear Area will appear, as shown below.

  3. In step 1, select the data range to be cleared. In this example, select B2:C7.

  4. Click “Next” to select if to keep the formatting in step two. In this example, select “Keep All Formatting” (by default).

  5. Select “True” in Expand data clearing regardless of selection in Settings dropdown if you want to clear the whole data table. In this example, we will keep it as “False” because we already select the whole data table range.

  6. Now you have finished all the steps in this form, and you can click “Run” to clear data or click “Save” to save this task. The filtered data will automatically be shown in its original location.

FAQ#

  • Should I include the header row when selecting the range?

Clear Area will automatically clear all the data in the selected range. Please leave the header line if you only wish to clear certain data in a column.

  • Does Clear Area require non-empty cells?

No. Clear Area will still work if you have missing/empty values in the selected range.

  • What is “Formatting” in Step 2?

Formatting includes background color, borders, etc.

  • When I should set “True” in Expand data clearing regardless of selection in Settings?

In the case that the data table range will change, you can set the starter cell range (in this example B2) in the data range in step1. And set “True” in Expand data clearing regardless of selection in Settings. This will make the clear always expand to the whole table and clear all contents in the data table.
